TREASURY SHARES - TRANSFER

In accordance with Listing Rule 12.6.4 Anglo American plc announces that on 20 September 2010, 5,700 shares were transferred out of the Company's holding of treasury shares in order to satisfy maturing share options under the Company's ESOS plan and on 21 September 2010, 3,699 shares were transferred out of the Company's holding of treasury shares in order to satisfy maturing share options under the Company's SAYE plan.

Following the transfer, Anglo American plc has a total of 23,391,196 ordinary shares held in treasury and a total of 1,319,540,092 ordinary shares in issue, excluding treasury shares.
