BRITISH EMPIRE SECURITIES AND GENERAL TRUST PLC (the "Company")

Buy-back of own securities

The Company announces that it has today bought back 215,217 Ordinary shares of 10p each in the capital of the Company (SEDOL: 0133508 / ISIN: GB0001335081), representing approximately 0.134% of the issued Ordinary share capital, at a price of 491.75 pence per Ordinary share.  The Ordinary shares bought back will be placed in treasury.

As a result of the above transaction the Ordinary shares in issue, shares held in treasury, and the Total Voting Rights of the Company are now as follows:
