CGNU and the MMA / MAAF group announce preliminary
discussions to form a partnership in France

CGNU plc and the MMA / MAAF group announce that CGU France (which already 
has a partnership with MAAF in small and medium commercial insurance) 
and these French insurance mutuals, which are headed by Jean-Claude Seys,
are currently in preliminary discussions to establish the basis of a new 
partnership in the French insurance market.

The partnership would reinforce the position of the MMA/MAAF group in 
the area of general insurance and the position of CGU France in life 
insurance and asset management.
