BAE SYSTEMS APPOINTS NEW NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Board of BAE Systems plc has today appointed Sir Nigel Rudd a non-executive
Director of the Company with effect from 10 September 2006.
Dick Olver, Chairman of BAE Systems said, 'I am extremely pleased to welcome Sir
Nigel Rudd to our Board. He is an accomplished executive with vast operational
and boardroom experience in manufacturing, banking and retail businesses. I am
certain we will benefit greatly from his advice and counsel.'
Sir Nigel Rudd is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants. He
founded Williams PLC in 1982 and the company went on to become one of the
largest industrial holding companies in the United Kingdom until its demerger in
November 2000, creating Chubb plc and Kidde plc.
He is currently chairman of Boots Group PLC and Pendragon plc and also serves as
deputy chairman of Barclays PLC. Until recently, he was chairman of Pilkington
plc. He also holds a number of other public appointments including chairman of
the CBI's Boardroom Issues Group.
He was knighted by HM The Queen for services to the manufacturing industry in
1996 and holds honorary doctorates from both Loughborough and Derby
universities. In 1995 he was awarded the Founding Societies Centenary Award by
the Institute of Chartered Accountants. He is a Deputy Lieutenant of Derbyshire
and a Freeman of the City of London.
