BALFOUR BEATTY PFI PRESENTATION/WORKSHOP
Balfour Beatty, the international engineering, construction and services
group, is today giving a presentation to stockbrokers and institutional investor
analysts on the subject of its Investments and Developments business, focusing
principally on the leading position which the group has achieved in the UK
market for privately financed infrastructure.
Since 1996, Balfour Beatty has committed to invest some £54 million of equity
in 11 PFI schemes for which £1.4 billion of total capital has been raised. This
has brought some £750 million of construction work and £650 million of service
work to the group, much of it still in the forward order book. Three roads are
already fully operational as is a waste-to-energy plant, together with the
responsibility for operating and upgrading the power system for the London
Underground. Two hospitals and a wastewater scheme are currently under
construction. A further hospital, a group schools project and a rapid transit
system are at preferred bidder stage.
Balfour Beatty has pre-qualified for all three of the London Underground
franchises under the governments' Public Private Partnership scheme.
