BALFOUR BEATTY SELECTED FOR ALLIANCE TO CARRY OUT
$C700 MILLION CONTRACT FOR ATCO ELECTRIC'S CAPITAL WORK PROGRAMME IN ALBERTA, CANADA
Balfour Beatty, the international engineering, construction, services and investment Group, announces today that it has signed an alliance agreement with ATCO Electric and United Group Limited of Australia, to assist ATCO Electric in completing its capital programme.
Balfour Beatty will provide engineering, construction, procurement and project management services. The project will be carried out by Balfour Beatty Management, the Group's professional and technical services arm, and Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions, the Group's specialist electricity, gas and water utilities engineering and construction business.
Within its service area, ATCO Electric will undertake a large portion of the necessary transmission capital work identified in the 2007 - 2017 Alberta Electric System Operator's (AESO) 10-year transmission system plan. In its plan, AESO identifies the potential need for $C5 billion in transmission development to ensure a reliable supply of electricity for Alberta.
Commenting on the alliance agreement, Balfour Beatty Chief Executive Ian Tyler said:
'We are delighted to have been selected to play a major role in ATCO Electric's significant capital programme in Alberta. Our expertise and resources will supplement ATCO Electric's own capacity in meeting the electrical transmission needs of a region experiencing rapid growth.'
ATCO Electric's current capital work programme estimates imply an alliance contract value of approximately $C700 million over the next five years.
Specifically the work will include the design of transmission lines and substations, procurement of equipment, materials and services, project management and construction of the transmission lines and substations and overall programme management.
