ANNOUNCEMENT OF ACQUISITION OF BCP SHARES BY CAIXA GERAL DE DEPOSITOS FROM
COMPANHIA DE SEGUROS MUNDIAL CONFIANCA
Lisbon, December 26, 2001 -- In accordance with article 17 of the Portuguese
Securities Code, Banco Comercial Portugues (BCP, NYSE: BPC, BCPPRA) informs
that on December 21, 2001 Caixa Geral de Depositos, S.A. acquired 139.602.893
shares of Banco Comercial Portugues, S.A., from Companhia de Seguros Mundial
Confianca, S.A., in the German stock market, which corresponds to 6% of the
share capital.
Caixa Geral de Depositos, S.A., which holds indirectly 100% of the share capital
of Companhia de Seguros Mundial Confianca, S.A. continues to hold a total stake
of 8.385% of the share capital of Banco Comercial Portugues, S.A. with 6% held
directly and the remaining 2.385% held through the Companhia de Seguros Mundial
Confianca S.A.
