THE BANKERS INVESTMENT TRUST PLC
Interim Management Statement
Review of the period from 1 November 2007 to 31 January 2008
Portfolio: During the period there was a reduction in the portfolio exposure to
both the UK and Europe. The majority of the proceeds were reinvested in the US,
as it is expected that the current economic slowdown in the US will be
relatively mild. In the US, a competitive currency and improving export orders
combined with sharply lower interest rates should offset the consumer slowdown.
We expect to continue to favour increasing the US exposure. Our investment in
the financial sector is weighted toward insurance and life assurance holdings,
although the valuation of some banks now offer good value.
Board: Mr James Morley will retire from the Board at the conclusion of the AGM
on 27 February 2008. Mr David Thomas will succeed Mr Morley as Chairman of the
Audit Committee.
Gearing: gearing at the end of the quarter was 5.0% (at 31 October 2007: 4.0%).
Dividends: following shareholder approval at the Annual General Meeting held
today, a final dividend of 2.60p per ordinary share, in respect of the year
ending 31 October 2007, will be paid on 29 February 2008 to holders registered
on 25 January 2008.
Discount: the share price discount to net asset value at 31 January 2008 was
11.8% (31 October 2007: 11.0%).
Share Capital: during the period the Company bought back 714,716 ordinary
shares at a cost of £2.9m.
The directors are not aware of any other significant events or transactions up
to the date of this report which would have a material impact on the financial
position of the Company.
