Barclays PLC
5 July 2000
Notification Under Part VI of the Companies Act 1985 (as amended by the
Companies Act 1989)
Barclays PLC made an announcement on 8 June 2000 following receipt of a
notification on 7 June 2000 under Part VI of the Companies Act 1985 that,
following the aggregation of the funds of Hill Samuel Asset Management
Limited and the funds of Scottish Widows Investment Management Limited,
the combined asset management operation, Scottish Widows Investment
Partnership Limited, had a notifiable interest in 44,745,326 ordinary
shares of Barclays PLC. This represented 3.02% of the Barclays PLC
relevant share capital.
Barclays PLC received on 4 July 2000 a further notification dated 30 June
2000 advising that the earlier notification had failed to distinguish
between 'material' and 'non-material' interests. As a result, Scottish
Widows Investment Partnership Limited, does not have a notifiable interest
as defined by Part VI of the Companies Act in the ordinary shares of
Barclays PLC and the notification received on 7 June 2000 should therefore
be disregarded.
