The Board of Barratt Developments PLC announces the permanent appointment of
Mr. David Pretty as Group Chief Executive, to succeed Mr. Frank Eaton, the
former Chairman and Chief Executive, - who tragically died in a road accident
earlier this month. Mr. Charles Toner has been appointed as Non-Executive
Chairman. Both appointments take effect immediately.
Mr. Pretty, 57, has been Regional Chairman of the Group's Southern Region
since 1991, a Main Board Member since 1990 and Barratt Group Managing Director
since 1998. He has been acting chief executive since Mr. Eaton's untimely
death.
Mr. Toner, 60, joined the Board in May, 2002 as a Non-Executive Director and
has been Barratt Group Vice-Chairman since June, 2002. Mr. Toner was a Main
Board Director of Abbey National PLC from 1992 to 1999 and its Deputy Chief
Executive from 1996 to 1999. He holds several non-executive directorships and
was Deputy Chairman of the National House Building Council from 1996 to 2001.
Barratt Developments PLC's Annual General Meeting, which was postponed in the
light of Mr. Eaton's death, will now take place on 3rd December, 2002. The
formal notice of the meeting will be issued to shareholders shortly, together
with the Report and Accounts for the year ended 30th June, 2002.
