Barratt Developments announces appointment of new Chairman

Barratt Developments PLC today announces that it will appoint Bob Lawson as its new non executive Chairman, succeeding Charles Toner who will be retiring from the Board after almost six years as Chairman. Bob will join the Board from 1 June and become Chairman at the start of the Company's new financial year on 1 July.  

Bob is currently Chairman of the Board of Hays Plc, the specialist recruitment company. His career has spanned a range of roles as Chairman or CEO of UK companies including three years as Managing Director of Vitec Group plc and more recently 10 years as Chief Executive of Electrocomponents. He was educated at Cambridge University and is a qualified engineer with an MBA.  

Charles Toner said: 'At the end of last year I informed the Board of my intention to step down at the end of my second term. I am delighted to be handing over to someone with such an outstanding record. Bob brings a wealth of experience to the company and will provide strong leadership and wise counsel at a challenging time for the sector.'

Bob Lawson said: 'I am delighted to be joining the Barratt Board and looking forward to working with Mark Clare and the management team. Barratt has established an outstanding reputation as a housebuilder and this is due in no small part to Charles' leadership over the last six years.'
