BATM wins $1m contract to supply VoIP platform to Grant County Public
Utility District (PUD)
Grant County to become the first PUD in the USA to provide high-speed
telecommunication access to utility customers
London / Foxboro, MA - BATM Advanced Communications (LSE: BVC), a leading
designer and producer of broadband data and telecoms systems, is pleased to
announce that it has won a contract to supply a VoIP platform to Grant County
Public Utility District in Washington State, USA. The contract has been won by
BATM's US subsidiary Telco Systems and the initial order is for over US$1
million, with the potential for an increase of several million dollars.
Grant County Public Utility District in Washington State, has made a major
purchase of the EdgeGateTM CPE VoIP Platform to support its Zipp Network,
thereby creating a fiber-to-the-home network for the people of Grant County. It
is the first PUD in the nation to provide high-speed telecommunication access to
utility customers.
Through the fiber-to-the-home network, the PUD is able to perform utility
functions including Automatic Meter Reading at each home. Grant County will
also offer additional excess capacity to service providers who could in turn
offer telephone, high-speed Internet and digital cable offerings to the county's
electric customers.
The end result for the user is a variety of high quality services to choose
from, including high-speed Internet connection, digital video including
Video-on-Demand, and access to telephone service, which may include extended
calling areas. The Zipp Network will bring consumers significant cost savings
through a bundled service package that offers lower cost-per-service with better
quality.
'This is an exciting step in Grant County's fiber-to-the-home project,' said Jon
Moore, senior telecommunications engineer for Grant County PUD's Zipp Network.
'We look forward to deploying the Telco Systems' EdgeGate CPE as we move forward
in serving the people of Grant County with new broadband technologies.'
Dr Zvi Marom, Chief Executive of BATM, said: 'This is a crucial win for our US
business and one which underlines our expertise in the provision of
telecommunications equipment. With a successful roll out, there is every chance
that Grant County will extend the number of units they have acquired already.
We are also aware that a number of other Public Utility Districts are trying to
implement similar schemes so we hope that Grant County will provide a good
blueprint for them.'
