                     BELLWAY PLC DIRECTORS' SHAREHOLDINGS

                              17TH OCTOBER 2001

The Company was yesterday informed that under the terms of the Bellway plc
Employee Share Trust (1992) (a trust used to reward directors and employees)
5,000 Bellway plc ordinary 12.5p shares in the company were yesterday
transferred to an employee of the company for a total consideration of £1.00.

Following the above transaction the total number of shares held in the trust
is 669,822 (0.61%) (674,822; 0.61%). Of these, the executive directors have a
beneficial interest in 255,099 (0.23%) (255,099; 0.23%).

In addition, each executive director has a potential further beneficial
interest in up to 414,723 (0.38%) (419,723; 0.38%).

The other interests of the directors remain unchanged.
