Result of equity placing

Bellway plc ('Bellway') is pleased to announce the successful completion of the equity placing announced earlier today (the 'Placing').

A total of 5,747,648 new ordinary shares of 12.5 pence each in Bellway (the 'Placing Shares') have been placed at a price of 779 pence per Placing Share, raising gross proceeds of approximately £44.8 million. The Placing Shares being issued represent approximately 5.0 per cent of Bellway's issued ordinary share capital prior to the Placing.

The Placing Shares will, when issued, be credited as fully paid and will rank equally in all respects with the existing ordinary shares of Bellway, including the right to receive all dividends and other distributions declared, made or paid in respect of such shares after the date of the issue of the Placing Shares.

Application will be made for, and the Placing is conditional on, inter alia, admission of the Placing Shares to the Official List maintained by the UK Listing Authority, and admission to trading by London Stock Exchange plc on its main market for listed securities (together, 'Admission').

Admission is expected to take place, settlement to occur and dealing in the Placing Shares to commence at 8.00 a.m. on 11 August 2009.

Citi is acting as sole bookrunner and corporate broker in respect of the Placing. Rothschild is acting as sole financial adviser to the Company in respect of the Placing.
