Big Yellow Group PLC 3 August 2000 Big Yellow Acquires Three New Stores Big Yellow Group PLC ('the Group') today announces the acquisition of three new stores in Brighton, Cardiff and Southend. On the Lewes Road, Brighton (A270), the Group has exchanged contracts to acquire, for £1.85m cash, the freehold interest in a property that will provide, following refurbishment, 60,000 sq. ft. of self storage. The Lewes Road, is a main road in this tightly constrained town, and the landmark building is located opposite a significant concentration of out of town retailing. The vendors have up to 17 months to vacate the property following which refurbishment work can commence. A deposit of £185,000 has been paid with the balance due on provision of vacant possession. At Penarth Road, Cardiff (A4160), the Group has acquired a freehold site of £850,000 cash upon which the Group is proposing to build a new built 50,000 sq. ft. store. The proposed store will be a short distance south of Cardiff city centre, close to a substantial office, retail and leisure development in a highly prominent location. Construction will commence in October of this year. At Arterial Road, Southend (A127), the Group has acquired, for £1.6m cash, the freehold of a building that will provide a 50,000 sq. ft. store. The store will be located on the only main road into Southend and will be highly visible and accessible. Refurbishment works are anticipated to commence in September of this year.
