Notice of General Meeting

Further to the announcement on 6 March 2012, the Board of British Portfolio Trust plc announces that a circular (the "Circular") containing details of the Company's proposed change of name to BlackRock Income and Growth Investment Trust plc has been posted to shareholders today, along with a form of proxy for use at the general meeting to be held at 2.30 p.m. on 17 April 2012 at 12 Throgmorton Avenue, London, EC2N 2DL.

A copy of the Circular has been submitted to the National Storage Mechanism and will shortly be available for inspection at www.hemscott.com/nsm.do
