British Portfolio Trust plc announces that on 4 January 2012 it purchased, for cancellation, 44,000 Ordinary 1p Shares (representing 0.15% of the issued Ordinary Capital), at a price of 127p per Ordinary Share.

Settlement of the purchased 44,000 Ordinary Shares is due on 9 January 2012.

Following the purchase and cancellation of the 44,000 Ordinary Shares, the total number of Treasury shares held by the Company will be 5,054,664. The issued share capital of the Company, less the total number of Ordinary Shares held in Treasury, will be 28,900,268 Ordinary 1p Shares.
