    Change of management personnel

    The Board of 3i Smaller Quoted Companies Trust plc ("3i SQC") announces the
    resignation for personal reasons of Henrietta Marsh as head of the smaller
    companies team at the Trust's Manager, 3i Investments plc. She will
    relinquish her responsibilities at the end of August 2002. The new fund
    manager and head of the team will be Mike Prentis, currently the fund
    manager of 3i European Technology Trust plc. Mike has prior experience of 3i
    SQC having provided maternity cover for Henrietta in 1999.

    William Govett, Chairman of 3i Smaller Quoted Companies Trust plc commented:
    "The Board wishes to thank Henrietta for her significant contribution to the
    success of 3i SQC over the past 5 years and we wish her well in the future.
    We are delighted to welcome Mike Prentis back on a permanent basis."

    Simon Howard, Managing Director of 3i Asset Management, a division of 3i
    Investments plc, said: "We will miss Henrietta very much, but are very happy
    to be able to replace her with a fund manager as experienced as Mike
    Prentis. Mike obviously knows her team, shares her links with 3i Group and
    already knows many of 3i SQC's investee companies."
