BREEDON AGGREGATES' ASSOCIATE BEAR SCOTLAND
WINS NE SCOTLAND 4G ROAD MAINTENANCE CONTRACT
Breedon Aggregates Limited, the UK's leading independent aggregates business, notes the announcement that its associate company, BEAR Scotland Limited, has been awarded the fourth-generation (4G) road maintenance contract for the North-East of Scotland (the "NE Contract") for a further six years, with scope for an additional two-year extension.
BEAR Scotland has held the NE Contract since 2001, with responsibility for overseeing 613 miles of trunk roads in the region. The contract for the South-East region, formerly held by BEAR Scotland, was today awarded to Amey. BEAR also manages the North-West trunk road network, having won the 4G contract for that region in 2012.
Alan Mackenzie, chief executive of Breedon Aggregates Scotland, comments:
"This is great news for Breedon, which is a major supplier of aggregates, asphalt and contract surfacing to BEAR in the North-East of Scotland. It's a real vote of confidence in BEAR's quality of service and competitiveness and we look forward to supporting them in the coming years as they work with Transport Scotland to repair and maintain the region's roads, which are so vitally important to the regional economy."
The new NE Contract will take effect from 16 August 2014.
