British Land Co PLC 20 March 2003 20th March 2003 BRITISH LAND OPENS CENTRE WEST British Land has today opened its Centre West Shopping Centre Development in East Kilbride to the public. The completed Centre provides 26,600 sq m of additional retail space on two levels linking into British Land's existing Plaza Shopping Centre. Approximately 73% of the new space has already been taken. The principal tenants include a full range Debenhams Department Store (11,150m2), Next (1,860m2), River Island, USC, JD Sports, Superdrug, Faith, La Senza, Pilot, Goldsmiths, C & J Clark, Foxhole, Beaverbrooks, Pizza Hut and KFC. Terms have been agreed and solicitors instructed on a further 16% of the space, totalling 89% of floor space let or committed. The Centre has direct access to 2,200 car parking spaces. To enhance the offer to consumers and retailers, British Land has installed an intranet initiative, which provides broadband technology throughout the Centre in the first project of its kind in Scotland. A fibre optic ring throughout the Centre will provide a number of direct benefits to retailers including access to local and national performance statistics. Retailers will have the ability to view British Retail Consortium Reports and compare and contrast local figures against national statistics to research into consumer profiles and to access all the Local Council, retail and supplier contacts, market information, training opportunities and customer service information. This technology will also provide retailers with an up-to-date security information alert capability, as well as providing regular updates on factors that might affect daily trading conditions, including promotional events taking place in the immediate area, latest weather forecasts and updates on local traffic conditions.
