The British Land Company PLC announces that it received notification on 9th
September 2004, from Mr N Ritblat, a director of the Company, of the following
transaction in the Company's ordinary shares of 25p each.

The purchase of 4,693 shares, at £7.0058 each, on his behalf by Lloyds TSB
Registrars on 20th August 2004, which was notified to him on 6th September 2004.
This was in consequence of his standing election to participate in the
Company's Dividend Re-investment Plan, whereby cash dividends are automatically
reinvested in the Company's shares.
