BellSouth Introduces New Pricing and Special Promotions for BellSouth(R)
FastAccess(R) DSL

ATLANTA - September 27, 2004 - BellSouth (NYSE: BLS) today announced new special
offers and pricing for customers of BellSouth(R) FastAccess(R) DSL Internet
service.  Details of the new pricing and special offers for residential
customers include:
     
•    BellSouth is lowering the price of FastAccess DSL Ultra, which features
     downstream connection speeds of up to 1.5Mbps, by $7 per month for both new 
     and existing customers.

•    New FastAccess DSL customers receive a $15 discount per month on all 
     BellSouth retail DSL Internet services for the first six months. (Regular
     monthly pricing applies after the introductory promotional period.)
     Additionally, customers receive a free modem or home networking gateway and 
     free activation after rebate and with a 12-month commitment, and customers 
     who order online at www.fastaccess.com can receive $50 cash back after 
     rebate.  With the new pricing, BellSouth FastAccess DSL Internet service is 
     available for an introductory low price of as little as $9.95 per month 
     with the BellSouth(R) Unlimited long distance plan.**

•    Customers who order BellSouth(R) FastAccess(R) HomeNetworking Plus Service 
     will receive the first three months of FastAccess HomeNetworking Plus
     free.

Beginning today, monthly pricing for BellSouth FastAccess DSL Ultra will
decrease by $7 per month.  This new pricing is available for both new and
existing customers and will automatically take effect without any action by
customers.  The new pricing will be reflected on October bills.  FastAccess DSL
Ultra, which features downstream connection speeds of up to 1.5Mbps and upstream
speeds up to 256Kbps, is now available for as low as $17.95** per month for the
first six months with the BellSouth(R) Unlimited long distance plan for new
subscribers.  Existing customers will pay a new, lower regular price of $32.95**
per month.

Increasingly, customers desire to share their high-speed DSL Internet access
among multiple computers and handheld devices like PDAs.  BellSouth offers
FastAccess HomeNetworking Plus, a service that enables subscribers to share
BellSouth FastAccess DSL with up to four computers over a wireless network.
FastAccess HomeNetworking Plus is free for the first three months to new
customers and is as little as $5 per month thereafter for BellSouth FastAccess
Xtreme customers. (Customers will also need home networking equipment from
BellSouth, which is provided when ordering FastAccess HomeNetworking Plus).
Creating a wireless network is easier than ever, and since wireless networking
doesn't require special wiring throughout the home, anyone can create a home
network.  If customers need assistance or have questions, BellSouth technical
support is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

BellSouth's tiered speed approach to broadband means that customers have a range
of high-speed FastAccess DSL services to choose from, including:
     
•    FastAccess(R) DSL Xtreme, BellSouth's fastest DSL Internet service, is up
     to twice as fast as FastAccess DSL Ultra.  This service allows customers to
     download files, surf the Web and game online at lightning-fast speeds and 
     is available for as low as $29.95 per month for the first six months (with 
     the BellSouth Unlimited(R) long distance plan).  FastAccess DSL Xtreme 
     features speeds up to 3.0Mbps downstream by 384Kbps upstream. Customers 
     selecting this service also receive a static IP address at no additional 
     charge and FastAccess HomeNetworking Plus at half price ($5 per month).

•    FastAccess(R) DSL Ultra, BellSouth's flagship DSL Internet service, is
     ideal for downloading large files like photos, music and video while 
     enjoying fast Internet surfing. FastAccess DSL Ultra is now available (with 
     the new pricing) for as low as $17.95 per month for the first six months 
     (with the BellSouth(R) Unlimited long distance plan)**.  FastAccess DSL 
     Ultra features speeds up to 1.5Mbps downstream by 256Kbps upstream.

•    FastAccess(R) DSL Lite, which is perfect for basic Web surfing and 
     accessing e-mail without the frustrations of dial-up, is available for as 
     low as $9.95 per month for the first six months (with the BellSouth(R) 
     Unlimited long distance plan)**.  FastAccess DSL Lite features speeds up to 
     256Kbps downstream by 128Kbps upstream.
