CAPITAL & REGIONAL PLC:
SIGN ASDA FOR RETAIL PARK IN LECKWITH, CARDIFF
Capital & Regional plc, the co-investing property asset manager and developer of
the planned Capital Retail Park at Leckwith, today announces that it has signed
contracts with supermarket chain Asda to take space on the 400,000 sq ft retail
park.
Asda will occupy a 92,000 sq ft unit and will join giant cash and carry
membership retailer, Costco which has already agreed to open a 135,000 sq ft
store. The proposed retail park development links with the Cardiff City Football
Club's new stadium plans.
Capital Retail Park is to be developed by Capital & Regional in conjunction with
Cardiff based PMG Estates Ltd.
Andrew Lewis-Pratt, Board Director of Capital & Regional plc comments, "We are
delighted that a major supermarket chain such as Asda has agreed to be one of
the key anchors at the retail park."
Paul Lowe, Asda's senior development surveyor, said that the new development
would create exciting new opportunities for the company and its customers in the
Welsh Capital. "We recognise the growing economy of Cardiff and we are looking
forward to opening our fourth store in the City providing customers with greater
choice and a greater range of quality goods." He added that the new store would
complement its existing three stores in Cardiff and reiterated that the company
had further new store aspirations in the Capital.
