Update on Indian Drilling Operations

Cairn announced today that a testing programme has commenced on the CB-A-2
appraisal well ('CB-A-2') on Block CB-OS/2, offshore Gujarat, west India,
utilising the drilling unit 'Noble Chuck Syring'.  CB-A-2 is a 4.5km step-out
appraisal of the Lakshmi gas discovery, announced by Cairn on 16 May 2000. 
The testing programme, over multiple potential pay zones, is expected to last
at least 21 days.  A further update will be provided once the testing
programme is completed.

Cairn also announced that the CB-C-1 exploration well, approximately 24kms to
the west of the Lakshmi Field in Block CB-OS/2, recently spudded, utilising
the R & B Falcon drilling unit 'JT Angel'.

An update on operations and results offshore Block CB-OS/2 will be provided in
due course.
