Carillion secures rail orders worth over £250 million
Carillion, the UK support services to construction group, and Railtrack have
agreed contract changes and variations worth over £250 million.
The contract for South Wales and Marches, worth around £200 million over five
years, involves the maintenance of over 1,250 miles of track in a reorganised
area, taking in the South Wales main line, Severn Tunnel to Fishguard, Cardiff
Valley lines, Newport to Crewe (via Shrewsbury), Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth and
Pwllheli and the Central Wales line from Craven Arms to Llanelli. The contract
is based on IMC 2000 conditions and Railtrack and Carillion Rail have agreed to
exercise options to extend the contract until 2007.
In addition, Carillion Rail and Railtrack have agreed one year extensions to the
Bristol and Gloucester area maintenance contracts, which cover over 900 track
miles in the Bristol, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and
Worcestershire. The Preston IMC 2000 maintenance contract has also been varied
to add track renewals to the scope of the work covered by this contract.
Carillion Chief Executive, John McDonough, says, 'We are delighted to have
agreed these contracts, which underline our commitment to safety and provision
of a high quality service to Railtrack.'
'These changes reinforce our position in this important market where, through
the recently created Carillion Rail, we are committed to working with Railtrack
and the Strategic Rail Authority to provide a full range of services, spanning
design and consultancy, maintenance, track renewal and enhancement projects,
including signalling overhead electrification and permanent way.'
Carillion Rail is one of the country's leading rail infrastructure service
providers with a workforce of over 4,000 people and extensive contracts for
maintenance, track renewals and enhancement projects on the UK rail network.
