Carillion secures Warwickshire county highways maintenance contract worth up to
£84 million
Business and Construction Services company Carillion has been awarded a £12
million p.a. highway maintenance contract for Warwickshire County Council.
Carillion will provide routine and cyclical maintenance, as well as reactive
maintenance including winter services, emergency works and structural
maintenance projects to the areas of Rugby, Warwick, Nuneaton & Bedworth,
Stratford-upon-Avon and North Warwickshire.
John McDonough, chief executive of Carillion said: 'We are delighted to be
working in partnership with Warwickshire County Council on this important
contract. We look forward to providing the residents of Warwickshire with a cost
effective and public focussed service.
'Transport is one of Carillion's key growth sectors. As well as a leading
supplier of road infrastructure services to the Highways Agency, road
maintenance for Local Authorities is a growing and strategically important
market for us. This contract for Warwickshire follows our success on a similar
contract for Surrey County Council in 2003.'
Cllr Ken Browne, portfolio holder for transport, environment and rural affairs,
said: 'The highway maintenance contract covers all activities which keep the
roads and footways safe for the public and is vital for the people of
Warwickshire. The contract was awarded after an in-depth evaluation process and
we are looking forward to a successful and productive union with Carillion.'
The contract will commence in early May 2004 and will be for an initial period
of four years, but could be extended to seven years, subject to meeting key
performance targets.
