1st December 2003
Newsplayer Group PLC and NTL Group Limited announce partnership
for paid-for premium content service
Newsplayer Group PLC ('NPG'), the media company, today announces its agreement
with NTL Home ('NTL') to provide content for NTL's Broadband Plus ('B+')
service, being launched by NTL on 3rd December 2003.
The B+ content package offers NTL broadband subscribers unlimited access to a
comprehensive choice of games, music, family and kids entertainment for £3.99
per month. NPG's archives of historic, educational and entertainment video
content will be a significant contribution to the B+ package. B+ users will
benefit from unlimited access to all seven of the NPG channels at a fraction of
the usual cost.
The two-year agreement makes NPG content immediately available to NTL's 300,000
broadband customers with connection speeds of 600kbps or 1mbps during a free
trial period. NTL will market, sell and bill customers for NPG services. NTL
will pay NPG a share of the revenues derived from the sales of B+ and a bounty
payment for attributable sales of NTL's Broadband Access services. NTL will also
cover bandwidth costs from within the NTL network. NPG will independently
generate advertising revenues from within B+.
The launch of B+ also marks the launch of NPG's latest channel, Timetunnel.tv.
Timetunnel.tv is a mega streaming video channel, including the newsplayer,
frost, screenplayer and pureworldcup channels. B+ subscribers will be able to
watch featured collections of footage and do their own searches of video footage
from ITN and Reuters newsreels dating from 1896 to 2000; hundreds of landmark
interviews conducted by Sir David Frost over 40 years; showbiz footage and
biographies of the Hollywood Stars of the 20th Century and highlights from 40
years of the World Cup Football tournament.
NPG's music video service, VideoTV, an interactive music-video jukebox with over
3,500 chart-topping music videos, will also be offered to B+ customers within
the music area of the service. VideoTV enables subscribers to search and create
play lists of a wide variety of music videos spanning the 20th Century; from Nat
King Cole to Kylie Minogue and Placido Domingo to the Sex Pistols.
Commenting on the launch, Paul Duffen, CEO, NPG, said: 'High speed distribution
and quality content are an irresistible combination. I am delighted that NPG and
NTL are working together to deliver a compelling experience to their ever
growing audience.'
Chris Bunyan, Head of Core Internet Service for NTL Home, commented, 'NTL Home
Broadband Plus is the first model of its kind to launch in Europe. The content
which the Newsplayer Group has brought to the table is a great addition to the
portfolio and works well across both our music and family areas, adding an
archive of thousands of videos and TV clips. The content is ideally suited for
viewing with a high speed broadband connection.'
