Newsplayer Group plc Signs Joint Venture with Sir David Frost
Newsplayer Group plc, the new-media company, today announced a joint venture
with Sir David Frost, securing the exclusive rights to hundreds of interviews
conducted by him over the past 40 years. The deal gives Newsplayer the on-
line and off-line rights to 'The Frost Collection'.
Possibly the best known television interviewer in the world, Sir David has
interviewed the last six UK Prime Ministers and last six US Presidents as well
as other leading figures including Bill Gates, Mikhail Gorbachev, Jacques
Cousteau, and Yasir Arafat with Yitzhak Rabin.
Newsplayer will digitise, sort and archive the library of interviews, creating
an 'interactive jukebox' for use by broadcasters and consumers via
subscription over the Internet. Newsplayer will exploit opportunities in both
on-line and off-line syndication, deals with ISPs, other websites and DVD
sales.
The deal with Sir David Frost adds a new revenue stream to Newsplayer's
existing business. It already has a range of licences, one of which is a 20
year licence to broadcast 1000 hours of news footage of key events of the past
104 years. A visitor to the Newsplayer website is able to view 14,000 clips,
including the coronation of Tsar Nicholas II in 1896; the destruction of the
Hindenburg airship in 1937; and Nelson Mandela's inauguration as President of
South Africa in 1994. Extensive footage is also available of the Royal
Family, including the marriage of Prince Charles to Lady Diana Spencer, as
well as clips from the world of entertainment, such as Elvis Presley, Marilyn
Monroe and the Spice Girls.
Paul Duffen, CEO of Newsplayer, said: 'We are thrilled that Sir David Frost
has chosen Newsplayer as his partner in this project to provide easy access to
his interviews to a global audience. In Newsplayer.com we have built the most
extensive online news archive in the world and are proud to have created a way
for everyone to gain access to this wealth of history. There is great synergy
between the interviews in The Frost Collection and the content on
Newsplayer.com and we are very excited about the opportunities to access this
fantastic content through our interactive platform.'
Sir David Frost said: 'Newsplayer is a powerful entertainment outlet and a
valuable resource for broadcasters, consumers and those involved in education.
Many of these interviews have not been seen since they were first aired. I am
delighted that Newsplayer are providing this opportunity to showcase this
material to new audiences worldwide.'
