TRANSACTION IN OWN SHARES

Close Brothers Group plc (the 'Company') announces that on 29 September 2010 it transferred 5,157 ordinary shares of 25 pence each from treasury to participants in its employee share plans.  The transfer price was 654.48 pence.

Following the transfer of these shares, the Company holds 4,810,740 of its ordinary shares in treasury and has 144,856,583 ordinary shares in issue (excluding treasury shares).
