Application has been made to the London Stock Exchange and the UK Listing
Authority for 10,099,977 shares of 10p each of Guinness Peat Group PLC, in
lieu of a Cash Dividend, to be admitted to the Official List.  The shares are
to be issued in respect of the Guinness Peat Group PLC scrip dividend
alternative for the Final dividend, year ending 31 December 2000.


The shares will rank pari passu in all respects with the existing issued share
capital of the company.


Copies of this announcement will be available for forteen days  following the
