SAINT-GOBAIN ACQUIRES PUM PLASTIQUES
Saint-Gobain's Building Materials Distribution Division has announced Point.P's
acquisition of PUM Plastiques (Arcelor Group).
PUM Plastiques is specialized in the distribution of plastic products targeted
at the Building and Civil Engineering industry. The company, which employs more
than 860 people, is expected to achieve sales of €234 million in 2003. Its sales
network comprises 127 outlets in France, Spain, Poland and Belgium.
The acquisition of PUM Plastiques, which is subject to approval by the French
competition authorities, fits with the Building Materials Distribution
Division's strategy of developing specialized channels in Europe to complement
its network of general distributors.
Saint Gobain's Building Materials Distribution Division posted sales of €11
billion in 2002 and employs over 48,000 people. It is the leading distributor of
building materials in Europe, with a network of 2,800 outlets in 14 countries.
Its main brands are Point.P, Lapeyre, La Plateforme du Batiment, Jewson and
Raab Karcher.
Point.P is the number one distributor of building materials in France. It has
1,400 points of sale with 18,000 people.
