MR FREDERICK WILLIAM BALLARD OBE, a nominee of Mohammed Abdulmohsin Al-Kharafi &
Sons WLL was appointed to the Board of Costain Group PLC as a non-executive
director with effect from Tuesday, 9 January 2001. Mr Ballard has not held a
directorship in a public quoted company on the London Stock Exchange in the last
