                         Appointment of new Director


The Board of the Company is pleased to announce the appointment of Bernard
James Mary Johnson, aged 57, as executive director of the Company with effect
from 15 January 2002. Mr Johnson has been managing the day to day running of
the Creightons's Health and Beauty business for the last two years and has
made a considerable contribution to the continual and steady improvement in
the Company's performance as reported to shareholders during this time. He is
also a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.


Commenting on his appointment, William McIlroy, Executive Chairman, affirmed
that the Board is certain that Mr Johnson will be a significant factor in the
development and delivery of the Board's forward strategy particularly in
maintaining and realising value in its Health and Beauty business.


In addition, 2,584,569 new Ordinary Shares of 1p each are being issued to
Bernard Johnson at a price of 2.7p per share.


The new Ordinary Shares will rank pari passu with the existing Ordinary Shares
of the Company. Application has been made to the UK Listing Authority for the
new Ordinary Shares to be admitted to the Official List of the UK Listing
Authority and dealings in the new Ordinary Shares are expected to commence at
8.00 a.m. on 23 January 2002.
