1999 INTERIM DIVIDEND - SCRIP ALTERNATIVE

CRH plc announces that, under the Company's Scrip Dividend Scheme, 23.48% of its
Ordinary Shareholders elected to receive shares in lieu of cash in respect of
all or part of their Interim Dividend for 1999 to be paid on 5th November 1999.

As a result, a total of 78,610 Ordinary Sahres of EUR0.32 each have been
allotted.  An application has been made to the Stock Exchange for admission of
the new shares to the Official List and dealing in the new shares is expected to
commence on Friday, 5th November 1999.
