DE LA RUE APPOINTS MANAGING DIRECTOR
 OF NEW SERVICES AND SOLUTIONS DIVISION


De La Rue announced today that Christopher Chadwick is to join the company as
managing director of its new Services and Solutions division, effective 15
November 1999.  The  new division, the start up of which was announced in June
will provide total solutions to customers in areas which capitalise on De La
Rue's reputation for security, integrity and trust.

Christopher Chadwick, 46, was previously managing director of Guardian Direct,
one of the UK's largest direct insurers.  The parent company Guardian Royal
Exchange plc (GRE) was recently the subject of a bid by AXA, the French
insurance giant.

Prior to that, he was director of strategic businesses with PPP Limited, the
private health insurance business, a role he held for one year after GRE
acquired PPP in February 1998, and for two years prior to that he was customer
service director at Mercury Communications.  Before joining Mercury he spent
several years in the financial services industry including senior management
positions at The Leeds Building Society, The Burton Group and American
Express, Europe.

Commenting on his appointment, chief executive, Ian Much said:

from the financial services industry and in running service orientated
organisations will stand him in good stead as he takes a firm grip on
developing the Services and Solutions business.  Chris will be building on the
