2001 from Barclays PLC giving notice that, in compliance with Part VI of the
Companies Act 1985, their interest in the Ordinary Shares of 25p each of the
Company is as follows:

'As at 5 June 2001, Barclays PLC, through its subsidiary Barclays Bank PLC,
had a notifiable interest in 5,823,787 Ordinary Shares of 25p each,
representing 3.02% of the issued share capital of 193,018,193 shares.'
