                        ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING STATEMENT
                                 8 January 2003


At the Annual General Meeting of Diploma PLC, the specialised international
distribution group, which is to be held today, the Chairman will report that:

'In my statement on 18 November 2002 which accompanied the announcement of the
Preliminary Results, I said that the Group's businesses had started the new
financial year in line with budget expectations and that the actions we had
taken to reduce costs should provide a firm foundation for progress in 2003.
Based on the preliminary results for the first quarter of the new financial
year, I am pleased to confirm that the Group continues to make progress in line
with budget expectations.'
