Commentary:
The acquisition of GB Airways was completed on January 31st and during the month
of February GB Airways continued to operate as a British Airways franchise.
Total company passengers grew 22.4% due to strong load factors at both easyJet
and GB Airways.
easyJet load factors were 1.4 percentage points ahead of last year, largely due
to cancellations in France caused by Air Traffic Control industrial action in
the last two weeks of the month.
We are pleased that GB Airways load factors, up 7.9 percentage points in the
month, remain strong during the wind down of the BA franchise.
1. Represents easyJet including GB Airways routes, the prior comparative does
not include GB Airways routes. From the April 2008 traffic statistics which will
be announced May 2008 and onwards GB Airways will no longer be reported
separately.
2. For comparative purposes the prior figure for GB Airways is shown
3. Represents the number of earned seats flown. Earned seats include seats that
are flown whether or not the passenger turns up because easyJet is a no-refund
airline, and once a flight has departed a no-show customer is generally not
entitled to change flights or seek a refund. Earned seats also include seats
provided for promotional purposes and to staff for business travel.
4. Represents the number of passengers as a proportion of the number of seats
available for passengers. No weighting of the load factor is carried out to
recognise the effect of varying flight (or 'stage') lengths.
