Purchase of Own Securities

On 2 May 2002, The Edinburgh Investment Trust plc bought back a further
150,000 ordinary shares for cancellation at a price of 409p per share.
Following the buy back, there are 246,571,714 ordinary shares in issue.
The share buy-back will be financed out of the capital reserve.
