Jupiter European Opportunities Trust PLC ("the Company") received notification
on behalf of Merchant Investors Assurance Company Limited ("Merchant IA") today
that, following a purchase of 150,000 Ordinary shares in the Company by Merchant
IA on 15th July 2003 (registered in the name of Bank of New York (Nominees)
Limited), the disclosable interest of Merchant IA in the shares of the Company
has increased to 2,487,390 shares representing 3.169% of the issued share
capital.


The disclosable interest of Allianz AG and its subsidiaries (including Merchant
IA) in the Ordinary Share capital of the Company amounts to 2,507,390 shares,
representing 3.194% of the issued share capital.
