FORMAL ADOPTION OF THE F&C NAME

The Board of Foreign & Colonial Investment Trust PLC announces that it has today resolved to change the name of the Company to F&C Investment Trust PLC.  This follows Shareholder approval at the Annual General Meeting earlier this year to amend the Articles of Association to enable the Directors to make the change.

The Company's Shares (the "Shares") will trade under the changed name on the London Stock Exchange from 8.00 a.m. London time on 12 November 2018.

The Company's trading instrument display mnemonic ("TIDM") for the Shares will change to FCIT.  The ISIN and SEDOL numbers will remain unchanged.

Shareholders, and the 4.25% Perpetual Debenture stockholders, are unaffected by the changes and existing share and stock certificates will remain valid and should be retained.

Rationale

The Company's 150^th anniversary year has provided a natural reflection point to ensure that it continues its contribution and relevance in the modern world.  As part of this, the Company's marketing is increasingly taking place under its commonly used name "F&C Investment Trust PLC", the name with which Foreign & Colonial has always been synonymous. The Board has taken into consideration how the name will appear on platforms and in newspapers and believe that it will now become easier to find and identify.   Whether as Foreign & Colonial or F&C, the Company has a unique heritage and the Board will continue to have the flexibility to make optimal and timely use of both in promoting the success of the Company in the interests of its Shareholders.

Savings Plans and Management Company Name

Separately, BMO Financial Group is re-branding its F&C Savings Plans to "BMO" and is changing the names of all its legal entities currently operating under the "F&C" prefix to "BMO". This includes the management company, which became part of the BMO Financial Group in 2014, changing its name from F&C Investment Business Limited to BMO Investment Business Limited. The Company's Shares will continue to be available to investors in the BMO Savings Plans.
