Immedia Broadcasting PLC
Signing of major contract with SPAR
Immedia Broadcasting, the providers of live tailored radio to retail, today
announces that it has signed a contract with SPAR UK to provide SPAR stores with
its successful 'Impulse Live' radio station. The radio station, unique to
newsagents and convenience stores, will be a tailored version of 'Impulse Live',
branded as 'SPAR live' and installed in all of SPAR's 2,700 stores. Following
installation, expected in September 2004, 'Impulse Live' will broadcast to a
network totalling 5,000 stores across the UK giving it the critical mass sought
by advertisers.
The addition of this highly developed live in-store radio station supports SPAR
UK's strategic marketing activity. The convenience sector is growing and
becoming more sophisticated in line with customer demands. Now worth £23bn, it
has grown at more than double the rate of the total grocery market in the past
year, according to the latest IGD Convenience Retailing report. The report
reveals that average weekly sales in the convenience sector have shot up 9.7% on
last year. SPAR has annual retail sales of over £2.3 billion and with 12 million
transactions a week, it has more visits than J. Sainsbury.
CEO of Immedia, Bruno Brookes, said:
'The addition of the SPAR brand to the Impulse Live network gives us critical
mass and adds tremendous credibility and reach. The increased network will help
to drive revenue, as 'Impulse Live' is now comfortably the largest in-store
media tool in the UK. As out of home and in-store marketing has become a new
priority, it's what agencies have been waiting for and we have delivered.'
Commenting on the deal, Susan Darbyshire, Marketing Director of SPAR, said:
'Feedback from stores who have piloted the Impulse Live service has been very
positive. We have given very careful consideration to in-store radio and the
benefits it offers our member stores, our customers and our suppliers and
believe the live, tailored solution offered by Immedia is the best we can
provide.'

Notes to Editors
Immedia Broadcasting PLC creates live, tailored radio stations for major
retailers. These stations engage and educate staff and customers and have
proved to be a powerful and instantly flexible media channel to drive sales.
'Impulse Live', originally called 'Newsagents Radio', was given its new name of
'Impulse Live' in March this year to reflect the expansion of the network to
stores within the broader Impulse convenience market including symbol groups.
The convenience sector is the talk of retail at the moment and is growing faster
than supermarkets. Now worth £23bn, the convenience sector has grown at more
than double the rate of the total grocery market in the past year, according to
the latest IGD Convenience Retailing report. The report reveals that average
weekly sales in the convenience sector have shot up 9.7% on last year.
Existing stations are:
• 'Impulse Live', broadcast to newsagents and convenience stores including
Texaco, Londis and Spar, Star News and The Mills Group;
• 'LloydsPharmacy Live', broadcast to the largest community pharmacy
operator in the UK;
• 'Vitus Apotek', broadcast in Norwegian to pharmacy retail stores in
Norway;
• 'Dixons Live' broadcast to 50 of Dixons' largest stores;
• 'Iceland Live' broadcast to 30 Iceland Stores for a 3 month trial.
