Paddy Power plc Announces Board Changes
The Board of Paddy Power plc is pleased to announce that from today, Thursday,
29th August 2002, Mr Fintan Drury and Mr Stephen Thomas will join the Board of
Paddy Power as non-executive directors. The appointments coincide with the
decision by Mr Michael Quinn, who represented ICC Venture Capital on the Board,
and Mr Peter O'Grady Walshe to retire as non-executive directors of Paddy Power
effective today.
Commenting, Stewart Kenny, Chairman, Paddy Power plc said:
'Earlier in the year we indicated that we would make new Board appointments to
ensure we had the best balance and mix of experience to take the business
forward. The Board is pleased to have candidates of the calibre of Fintan Drury
and Stephen Thomas now joining the Board. Fintan brings a wealth of
wide-ranging business experience and acumen to the Board. Stephen has extensive
knowledge of the UK leisure sector, which will be invaluable to the development
of the Paddy Power offer in that market. We look forward to the contribution
they will make to the continued growth and success of Paddy Power plc.'
Stewart Kenny continued:
'The Board would like to thank both Michael and Peter for their contribution to
the company. During their tenure the Company recorded strong performances in
terms of development and results. Michael was appointed in 1997 whilst Peter
joined the Board in July 2000. Michael and Peter brought valuable experience
from their banking and corporate finance backgrounds which was particularly apt
given our stage of development.'
Stephen (49) is Chief Executive Officer of Luminar plc. He has extensive
experience of the UK leisure sector. He co-founded Luminar in 1997. Today it
is the largest independent operator of late night entertainment venues in the UK
comprising over 280 UK based businesses including national brands such as;
Chicago Rock Cafe, Jumpin Jaks, Liquid, The Orange House and The Jam House.
Prior to this he held senior positions with a number of UK based leisure
companies including Whitbread & Co plc, Grosvenor Leisure Limited and Rank
Leisure Services.
Fintan (43) is Chairman of sports management company, DSMI and is a Director of
a number of other private companies. He is a non-executive director of Anglo
Irish Bank plc. A former news journalist with RTE, Mr Drury founded Drury
Communications, a leading corporate communications consultancy, in 1988. He
retired from this business in 1999 when he sold his controlling interest in the
company.
