Goldplat plc ('Goldplat' or 'the Company')
Board Appointments
Goldplat plc, the AIM listed gold producer in Africa, is pleased to announce that it has appointed Mr. Hansie van Vreden to the Board of Goldplat as an Executive Director, with immediate effect. This Board appointment is in line with the Company's strategy of succession planning and strengthening its team, as it continues to build on its position as the market leader of gold recovery in Africa.
Hansie van Vreden, currently the Managing Director of Goldplat's South African and Ghanaian gold recovery operations, is an experienced metallurgist with over 15 years in the mining industry. Prior to joining Goldplat Hansie worked at several AngloGold Ashanti ('Anglo') operations in South Africa, including Savuka, Mponeng and Kopanang Gold Plants, and Sunrise Dam Gold Mine in Australia. During his time as Plant Manager and Production Metallurgist at Kopanang Gold Plant he successfully converted the operation from reef to waste rock and implemented various initiatives to increase production capabilities and improve recoveries. In addition, at three other Anglo processing plants he gained certification and re-certification of the International Cyanide Management Institute (ICMI). During his time at Anglo (1999-2013) Hansie was also responsible for health and safety, production planning and execution, projects, metallurgical accounting, security and operational staff. He holds a Bachelors degree in Engineering (Chemical: Mineral Processing) from the University of Stellenbosch.
On 17 September 2013 it was announced that Dr Robert Pitts Smith will retire from the Board on 31 December 2013. Hansie will take over the role of Chief Operating Officer at that point and will be responsible for all recovery operations.
Additionally, the Board of Goldplat is pleased to announce that the appointment of Ian Visagie as CEO has now been made permanent. Ian will continue to be responsible for the Company's finance function.
Goldplat's CEO Ian Visagie said, "We are delighted to welcome Hansie onto the Board of Goldplat. His performance since joining the Group, together with his technical expertise and experience at Anglo, make him ideally suited to help drive both the efficiency and profitability of our Goldplat gold recovery operations going forward. In his role as Managing Director of both our South African and Ghanaian gold recovery operations he has already gained an invaluable understanding of the Company's operations. In line with these latest developments I look forward to reporting on our gold recovery operations in 2014."
Johannes Hendrik van Vreden, aged 33, does not currently hold, and has not held, any directorships or partnerships in the last five years.
There is no other information that is required to be disclosed pursuant to Schedule 2 paragraph (g) of the AIM Rules for Companies.
