Supply Deal with Interbrew

Greencore Group PLC 20 June 2001 Press Release Greencore Signs Major Malt Supply Deal with Interbrew Greencore Group plc today welcomed the signing of a long-term malt supply agreement between its Malting Group and Interbrew, the second largest brewer in the world. Interbrew has announced that it has decided, following a strategic review, to close its malting plants in Belgium and conclude a long-term malt supply agreement with a joint-venture company to be established by Greencore Malting Group and Malteurop. 'We are delighted to have formally established our close trading relationship with Interbrew in a way which enables us to service almost all of Interbrew's continental European malt requirements and which does not add further capacity to the malt market. This relationship provides us with the opportunity, from 2002 onwards, to focus our Belgian business on a sustainable high quality customer base rather than on lower margin commodity export business' said David Dilger, Chief Executive of Greencore. Greencore Malting Group is the sixth largest maltster in the world with production operations based in England, Ireland, Scotland and Belgium. Greencore Malting Group supplies 15 of the top 20 brewers and distillers in the world, exporting to over 60 countries. Interbrew is the world's second largest brewer in terms of volume. The company is headquartered in Belgium and employs over 34,000 people worldwide. Its portfolio combines strong local brands with world brands such as Stella Artois, Bass and Labatt. In total, Interbrew's beers are sold in over 110 countries. - Ends - 20th June 2001 For reference: Billy Murphy/Orla Benson Drury Communications Tel: (01) 260 5000
