On 23rd February 2000, Greggs PLC ('the Company') was advised that Morley Fund
Management Limited ('Morley'), the UK-based institutional investment manager
of CGU PLC, reported on behalf of its clients, which include certain
subsidiaries of GCU plc, that they had purchased 67,306 shares of 20p each in
the Company on the 21st February 2000 (0.56% of the issued share capital of
the Company). As a result of this purchase, the material interest of CGU PLC
has increased from the last reported material interest of 4.07% (which was
disclosed to the Company by General Accident plc on 19th April 1996) to
5.316%.
General Accident plc merged with Commercial Union PLC in June 1998 forming CGU
PLC. The assets of the subsidiary companies of General Accident PLC (which
originally held 4.07% of the issued share capital of the Company) are managed
by Morley. The 5.316% interest reported by Morley was acquired as a result of
the aggregation of General Accident plc subsidiaries' holdings and certain
Commercial Union plc subsidiaries' holdings in June 1998 and subsequent
acquisitions made by Morley on behalf of certain CGU plc subsidiaries,
including the purchase of 67,306 shares on the 21st February 2000, increasing
the interest over 5%.
The 5.316% material interest in the issued share capital of the Company is
divided between companies (by fund) as follows:
