RE: GREGGS PLC ('the Company')

On 14 December 1999, the Company was advised that Norwich Union Group had, on 13
December 1999, purchased 50,000 shares of 20p each in the Company (0.42% of the
issued share capital of the Company).  As a result of this purchase, Norwich
Union Group has a material interest in 3.38% of the issued share capital of the
Company as detailed below:

          Norwich Union Life & Pensions B A/c     402,000
          London & Edinburgh Insurance Co Ltd         900

The interest was disclosed on behalf of Norwich Union plc (as the ultimate
holding company).
