Hiscox announces changes to its Board of Directors

Hamilton, Bermuda (21 November 2008) -- Hiscox (LSE:HSX), the international specialist insurer, today announces the following changes to its Board.

Dr. Carol Franklin Engler has retired as a non-executive director of Hiscox Ltd with effect from 20 November 2008. Dr Franklin Engler has served nine years on the Board and we are deeply grateful to her for her wise guidance over a period of dramatic change for the company.

Ernst Jansen and Gunnar Stokholm have been appointed as non-executive directors with effect from 20 November 2008. They will also become members of the Audit, Investment, Conflicts, and Remuneration and Nomination Committees.

Ernst Jansen, aged 60, retired in 2007 from Eureko, a leading insurance group operating in several European markets, where he was Vice Chairman. He is Dutch and lives in the Netherlands and France.

Gunnar Stokholm, aged 59, retired in 2004 from Zurich Financial Services where he was CEO of their Asian markets. He is Danish and lives mainly in Italy.

Both new directors bring considerable industry knowledge and a wide experience of developing business in new overseas markets.  

Robert Hiscox said: 'We are very sad to lose the wisdom and experience of Carol Franklin Engler. Carol has a great talent for putting her finger on the raw nerve - a great asset in a non-executive director. However, we are delighted to be joined by Ernst and Gunnar. Both of them have enormously valuable experience in building and running multi-country insurance businesses which will be essential as we expand internationally.'
