Results announcement dates for 2003

We have sent the following letter to The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited.
The announcements to be made on 3 March 2003 and 4 August 2003 at 4.00pm in Hong
Kong will be released at the same time in London, being 8.00am and 9.00am London
time respectively.

A copy of the letter sent to The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited is set out
below.

"I write to inform you that HSBC Holdings plc will make a preliminary
announcement of its results for the year to 31 December 2002 after the market
closes at 4pm Hong Kong time on Monday 3 March 2003 and will announce its
interim results for the six months to 30 June 2003 after the market closes at
4pm Hong Kong time on Monday 4 August 2003."
