Announcement Dates

We have sent the following letter to The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong advising
announcements to be made on 10 November 2003 and 1 March 2004 at 4.00pm Hong
Kong time which will be released at the same time in London, being 8.00am London
time, and an announcement on 2 August 2004 at 4.00pm Hong Kong time which will
be released at the same time in London, being 9.00am London time.

The text of the letter sent to The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited is set
out to be

" I write to inform you that HSBC Holdings plc intends to formally declare a
second interim dividend for 2003 after the market closes at 4pm Hong Kong time
on Monday 10 November 2003. The intention to declare a second interim dividend
for 2003 was included in the 2003 interim results announcement made on 4 August
2003.

A preliminary announcement of HSBC Holdings plc's results for the year to 31
December 2003 will be made after the market closes at 4pm Hong Kong time on
Monday 1 March 2004 and an announcement of HSBC Holdings plc's interim results
for the six months to 30 June 2004 will be made after the market closes at 4pm
Hong Kong time on Monday 2 August 2004."
